North West

Sun City Not far from Johannesburg and Pretoria, the North-West Province is a haven for short or long stay holidaymakers in search of sun, water, bushveld or, at Sun City, the high life of an internationally famous golfing and gambling resort. The Taung Skull Heritage Site and the Vredefort Dome, where a meteorite crashed to earth 2000 million years ago, are famous historic sites in the province.
 
TOP ATTRACTIONS
Sun City and the Lost City - where Las Vegas meets Disneyland in the heart of the BUshveld. Thip top flight international gambling resort, containing four hotels to suite allpockets, offers an endless variety of entertainment from golfing, swimming and surfing, to hot-air ballooning and parasailing, from bird and game-watching to cinema and cabaret-going. Children are especially well catered for. Sun City and the Pilanesberg may be reached via Rustenburg, about 100kms west of Pretoria, or directly by car or tour bus.
 
The Pilanesberg National Park - 40kms north of Rustenberg and close to Sun City, offering excellent accommodation, good game viewing, ancient rock art sites and unusual rock formations, in less than 90 minutes' drive from Johannesburg
 
The Magaliesberg - a beautiful range of mountains, hills, cliffs, waterfalls and forests, wells tocked with flora and fauna and a short distance from Pretoria.
 
Hartbeespoort Dam, between Pretoria and the Magaliesberg, the hugely popular water sports and outdoor playground for Gautengers. Hartbeespoort Dam is a 90-minute car drive from Johannesburg and 15 minutes from Pretoria.
 
Madikwe Game Reserve, on the Botswana Border, one of the country's newest and largest reserves. Home to the Big Five and teh rare black rhino.

The spring flowers of Namaqualand, which offer annually one of the most spectacular floral extranvanganzas on earth
 
The Richtersveld National Park, the country's largest desert park, a wilderness of rare beauty and a botanist's delight
 
The Augrabies Falls National Park, where the spectacular Orange River is at its best, and the scarce and firece black rhino may be found
