Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga - 'the place where the sun rises' - where mountain and bushveld stretch out across the great highveld grasslands and the greater Drakensberg escarpment to the tropical Lowveld around Nelspruit in the east, and the grass ad wetlands around Chrissiesmeer and Wakkerstroom in the south. Most visitors to Mpumalanga spend a day or two in the Kruger National Park, one of the world's biggest and finest game reserves. Nelspruit, the provincial capital, is an important stop en route to the Park and the many private game reserves on its fringes, and to Maputo in Mozambique.Mpumalanga is an ancient land, with evidence of human habitation stretching back 100 000 years, and the first major kingdoms and mining empires beginning 46 000 years ago. The region's pre-colonial history, is however, still largely unexplored.Bordering on Swaziland, and encompassing huge areas of the world-renowned Kruger National Park, as well as private game reserves, Mpumalanga offers untold opportunities to view a unique concentration of wildlife - either on camping safari or in the air-conditioned luxury of a 5* game lodge.
There are numerous wonderful day tours and sightseeing trips to be done in and around Mpumalanga. Public roads are well developed and well sign-posted with driving done on the left hand side of the road.
