Garden Route

South Africa is a land of contrast, from the deserts and harshland of the Karoo in the inland area if the Western Cape, the beauty and majesty of Cape Town and it's Table Mountain, to the garden like environment of the Garden Route region.

The land of contrasts - from tranquil wide open desert plains to the lush riverbeds, from clear starlit skies to a cosy barbecue campfire, from a seeming lifeless desert floor to wild animals gathering at waterholes - this land will soothe your soul and spirit.

The Garden Route is broadly defined as the area between George and Humansdorp, stretching along the Southern coastline of Southern Africa. This area fits neatly between the predominantly summer rainfall region of the Eastern Cape and the winter rainfall area of the Cape peninsula.

The major towns, starting from the West are the Wilderness; Sedgefield; Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. These are supported by small resort villages, Noetzie, Victoria and Herolds Bay, Klein and Groot Brak River, Buffalo Bay, Still Bay and Natures Valley . TRAVEL INFORMATION - THE WILDERNESS

The Wilderness is a tranquill area situated in and around the lakes, lagoon and beach area within the Garden Route. An abundance of water meandering between small rivers and into lake areas that form part of a nature reserve. A spread out and quaint resort village is probably the best way of describing the Wilderness. It was just a few years ago when this area was small and quiet, offering very little accommodation for tourists, it has since been discovered by locals and visitors alike and many new developments have sprung up over the last few years, this has been done in an attractive way and the beauty of the surroundiung natural environment appoears to have been maintained for the time being, one can only but hope this is considerred with further development.

Hiking, bird watching, canoeing, strolling, fiching, the Wilderness has it all. A short drive to the airport in George and in clise range to the Garden Route Shoppong mall in george which caters for all requirements. Golf courses abound in the refion, the George Golf Club has a course rated in the top twenty in the country, this is suppirt by the resirt courses of Oubaai; Fancourt, the Links and Bramble Holl, all within an hours drive.

Many accommodation options exist for the visitor, from Hotels to the rental of private holiday homes or bed and breakfast, Guest Lodge and self-catering accommodation.
